Multi-ancestry genome-wide gene-sleep interactions identify novel loci for blood pressure.
2021
AbstractLong and short sleep duration are associated with elevated blood pressure (BP), possibly through effects on molecular pathways that influence neuroendocrine and vascular systems. To gain new insights into the genetic basis of sleep-related BP variation, we performed genome-wide gene by short or long sleep duration interaction analyses on four BP traits (systolic BP, diastolic BP, mean arterial pressure, and pulse pressure) across five ancestry groups using 1 degree of freedom (1df) interaction and 2df joint tests. Primary multi-ancestry analyses in 62,969 individuals in stage 1 identified 3 novel loci that were replicated in an additional 59,296 individuals in stage 2, including rs7…
May Measurement Month 2018: an analysis of blood pressure screening results from Spain.
2020
Este artículo se encuentra disponible en la siguiente URL: https://academic.oup.com/eurheartjsupp/article/22/Supplement_H/H119/5898732 En este artículo también participan: Fernando Martínez, Blanca Carreras, Bettina de Berardinis, Thomas Beaney, Anca Chis Ster, Neil R. Poulter, Xin Xia y Luis M. Ruilope. Elevated blood pressure (BP) is the single most important contributing risk factor to the global disease burden, leading to over 10 million deaths each year. In Spain, hypertension (HTN) affects around 20% of the adult population and remains the greatest attributable cause of cardiovascular mortality. May Measurement Month (MMM) is a worldwide initiative aimed at increasing awareness of HTN…
Primordial Prevention of High Blood Pressure in Childhood
2020
Hypertension is a condition with increased risk for subsequent adverse events, and treatment of hypertension is prescribed for primary prevention of adverse events. Primordial prevention is a concept that precedes primary prevention and focuses on risk factor prevention. Primordial prevention of hypertension consists of strategies to maintain blood pressure in a normal range and prevent development of elevated blood pressure or hypertension. Childhood is a period in which primordial prevention could be effective and if sustained throughout childhood could contribute to a healthier young adulthood. Targets for primordial prevention in childhood include preventing and reducing childhood obesi…
Association of lifetime blood pressure with adulthood exercise blood pressure response : the cardiovascular risk in young Finns study
2021
Purpose: Elevated blood pressure (BP) in childhood has been associated with increased adulthood BP. However, BP and its change from childhood to adulthood and the risk of exaggerated adulthood exercise BP response are largely unknown. Therefore, we studied the association of childhood and adulthood BP with adulthood exercise BP response. Materials and methods: This investigation consisted of 406 individuals participating in the ongoing Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study (baseline in 1980, at age of 6–18 years; follow-up in adulthood in 27–29 years since baseline). In childhood BP was classified as elevated according to the tables from the International Child Blood Pressure References …
Reslizumab Treatment for Moderate to Severe Asthma with Elevated Blood Eosinophil Levels
2015
Reslizumab (RES) in patients (pts) with inadequately controlled asthma and elevated blood eosinophils (EOS): Analysis of two phase 3, placebo-control…
2016
Background: RES reduced exacerbation frequency and improved lung function and asthma control in pts with inadequately controlled asthma and elevated blood EOS in two placebo (PBO)-controlled, phase 3 studies (Castro et al. Lancet Resp Med 2015). Aims/objectives: To determine the efficacy of RES in the subset of pts in these studies meeting the definition of ATS/ERS-defined inadequately controlled asthma. Methods: This was a post-hoc analysis of pooled data from two replicate, 52-week, PBO-controlled studies of RES (3mg/kg IV Q4W) in pts with inadequately controlled asthma and blood EOS ≥400/µL who were using medium-to-high dose inhaled corticosteroids; primary results have been reported. As…
Do we know more about hypertension in Poland after the May Measurement Month 2017?—Europe
2019
Abstract Elevated blood pressure (BP) is a worldwide burden, leading to over 10 million deaths yearly. May Measurement Month (MMM) is a global initiative organized by the International Society of Hypertension aimed at raising awareness of hypertension and the need for BP screening. An opportunistic cross-sectional survey of volunteers aged ≥18 was carried out in May 2017. BP measurement, the definition of hypertension and statistical analysis followed the globally approved MMM17 Study Protocol. In Poland 5834 (98.9%, Caucasian) individuals were screened. After multiple imputation, 2601 (35.3%) had hypertension. Of individuals not receiving anti-hypertensive medication, 976 (20.6%) were hype…
